From Frazzled to Fantastic: Conquer Mom Guilt and Be the Calm Mom You Deserve to Be

parenting
parent and mindset coach Cynthia Eidelman shares her tips to overcome mom guilt

Ever feel like you're drowning in a sea of laundry, tantrums, and to-do lists?

You're not alone, mama. I want to dive more into the all-too-common struggle of mom guilt, that nagging feeling that whispers you're never doing enough.

But before you resign yourself to a life of self-doubt and burnt-out meltdowns, take a deep breath.

There's a way out! And I am here to help!

A Window into the Mom Guilt Battlefield

So let’s paint a picture of the daily battles we as moms truly face.

As you know, I am a marriage and family therapist and mom myself but I am not absolved from this struggle – the feeling like you're constantly catching up, the pressure to be a perfect working mom, the guilt of missing out on "supermom" activities.

This likely resonates with you because it is our reality. We juggle work deadlines with school bake sales, worry about missed milestones while navigating meltdowns.

We all feel those feelings. And guess what, you are not crazy for feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and like you're constantly failing some invisible motherhood test.

Beyond the "Shoulds": Redefining What Motherhood Means to You

But what is the root of mom guilt?

Unrealistic expectations.

Society and social media bombards us with the "shoulds" and fake “realities” of motherhood – have a spotless house, bake cookies every day, have that pinterest school lunch, be a patient saint with endless energy.

This post challenges that narrative. It empowers you to define motherhood on your terms.

Remember that four-month-old you left at daycare because you needed to work? You weren't a bad mom, you were a woman making a tough choice for your family. It is possible to be a good mom and a professional.

It is possible to be a good mom and put your kids in daycare. It is possible and more than one thing can be true. We need to, as women, learn to embrace our unique journey, our strengths, and our passions. Because we are more than a caregiver; we are well-rounded individuals with dreams and aspirations outside of motherhood.

Putting on Your Oxygen Mask First: Why Self-Care Isn't Selfish

Do you recall traveling on an airplane and listening to the emergency demonstrations?

Let’s use the airplane safety rule in our daily lives: secure your own oxygen mask before assisting others.

Similarly, you can't be the best mom you can be if you're running on fumes. I want to flip the script on the "selfishness" of self-care.

Prioritizing your mental health isn't a luxury, it's a necessity. Feeling constantly stressed and burnt out doesn't make you a good mom, it makes you a human at her breaking point.

Taking time for yourself, whether it's a hot bath, a yoga class, booking that coaching or therapy session, or simply getting a good night's sleep, allows you to recharge and become the calm, present parent your children deserve.

The Mindful Mom Method: Your Personalized Path to Calm

When I became a working mom of 2 under 2, my struggles with mom guilt and anxiety began and it wasn’t until I went to therapy (yes, therapists go to therapy too), that I realized the tools to break free from this feeling were all within reach and easier to apply than I first thought.

So, I developed my renowned parenting master-course, the Mindful Mom Method, a self-led revolutionary program designed by me, a therapist who understands the trenches of motherhood firsthand. Imagine a toolbox filled with practical strategies, judgement-free support and evidence-based techniques. The Mindful Mom Method offers just that:
